This service provides 1-2-1 tailored support for young people aged 13-19, living with Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia in the Birmingham area. Currently funded by Children in Need, mentoring and befriending approaches contribute to the reduction in isolation faced by young people living with this illness and helps to increase participation on activities and improve self-esteem.
Befriending involves supporting and encouraging young people to access social, recreational and educational activities for those who are currently facing isolation due to their condition and after a period of illness.
