At OSCAR Birmingham we recognise that volunteers can play an important part in providing support to charities and individuals. We are always looking for volunteers as this offers the chance to give something back to the community or make a difference. For others it provides an opportunity to develop new skills or build on existing experience and knowledge.


Regardless of the motivation, if you decide to become a volunteer with us, you will find it both challenging and rewarding.


All volunteers will be need to attend an initial interview, undertake criminal records check with Disclosure and Barring Scheme and satisfactory receipt of references:

As a charity we rely on public donations to help us continue our work with children, young people and families in the community.

Become A Mentor or Befriender

Are you a mentor?

OSCAR Birmingham are looking to recruit volunteers to become mentors or befrienders.

This would be an ideal opportunity if you have few hours to spare each week to help support children and young people living with the illness of Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia.

What would I get from this?

  • Making a difference in the lives of children and young people.
  • Detailed training programme and support to help carry out your role.
  • Develop skills including being a leader, working with others and communication.
  • Travel and lunch expenses paid.
  • Meeting new people from different backgrounds and make friends.
  • Support and guidance to help you decide your future goals.
